Scouts recognized for Moorfield brick salvage; caboose renovation planned for Vienna 250

The Vienna Town Council recognized local volunteer efforts and community events on June 1, including a presentation by scouts who helped salvage historic Moorfield bricks.
Scoutmaster Matthew Craner told the council that Troop 1539 excavated and palletized more than two tons of bricks from the Moorfield site, discovered two bricks with what appeared to be a child's footprint, and assisted the town by preparing salvaged materials for transport to a town-owned location. Craner presented special Vienna 250 merit patches to participating scouts and read the list of awardees.
During public comment, resident Dan Mulville announced the Octopus Club’s caboose renovation: decals were removed, the caboose was power washed, and scraping and sanding begin the coming week; volunteers are invited to help and town staff indicated they may cover materials. Mulville estimated the total materials cost should be less than $800 and hoped the caboose could be ready for the Colonial Fair on June 14.
Tracy McCarty, Vienna 250 co-chair, asked staff and volunteers to coordinate so the caboose could be open during the Colonial Fair and described other Vienna 250 events including a Juneteenth parade on June 13 and an author series on June 20.
The council thanked the scouts and volunteer groups and asked staff to coordinate schedules so community events can feature the renovated caboose.
