The Board of Supervisors approved a lease amendment on May 13 that permits updated cellular equipment on a county‑owned tower in Montross (Oak Street/Willow). The county attorney reviewed the amendment and told supervisors the legal language was acceptable, that the amendment does not change the lease payment terms and that the lease continues to require the carrier to describe equipment to be installed.
Supervisors asked where the tower was located and discussed how 5G equipment tends to shorten coverage range and increase the number of towers needed. One supervisor asked staff to explore options for additional coverage in his district by leveraging county‑owned towers.
The board moved, seconded and approved the amendment by voice vote with no recorded changes to lease revenue. The county indicated staff would continue to coordinate placement and equipment details with carriers as needed.
