Goochland supervisors approve consent agenda including school budget amendments totaling $890,700

At its June 3 meeting, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors approved a consent agenda that included two school budget amendments and other routine items.
Interim County Administrator Manny Alvarez reviewed the consent items before the vote. The first resolution amended the FY2025 county budget to appropriate $535,000 to the school operating fund and $11,000 to the school cafeteria fund. The second amended the FY2026 county budget to appropriate $342,000 to the school operating fund, $1,000 to the school textbook fund and $1,700 to the school cafeteria fund. Alvarez noted these adjustments occur because the county adopted its budget before the schools' final budgeting and state allocations were completed.
Supervisor 3 (Mr. Lyle) noted the board previously authorized an additional $300,000 for schools and said the county would not ask the schools to return state-provided funds. Supervisor 5 reported that the county's support reflects a continuing commitment to education. Supervisor 5 also highlighted that Goochland had three of four Smart Scale projects approved for final funding in the region, praise for staff and partnership with VDOT, and recognition of regional transportation efforts.
A motion to approve the consent agenda as amended was made by Supervisor 5, seconded by Supervisor 6 and approved by voice vote. The consent agenda also included accepting subdivision streets into the secondary state system (Blair Estates) and other routine reports. The board then approved a set of vetted appointments by motion and voice vote.
The board recessed for dinner and reconvened at 6 p.m. for the evening public hearing session.
