Westmoreland supervisors praise sheriff's investigators after multi‑state wire‑fraud recovery

The Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors on May 13 publicly commended sheriff's investigators for recovering funds and advancing a multi‑state wire‑fraud investigation that targeted legal offices and other victims.
Senator Stewart, who the chair introduced as county attorney and who said he also serves in the state senate, described the case and credited local detectives for detailed investigative work that led investigators to Florida. "They were incredibly thorough and professional," Stewart said, recounting that detectives obtained subpoenas, tracked transactions through fictitious entities and located an individual tied to the scheme. "Be careful because it's rampant right now," he added, warning residents about wire‑fraud tactics.
The sheriff thanked the detectives for travel and effort, saying the team "drove down, they did this incredible work and drove right back with the person that was in to his money back." He praised cooperation with other agencies, including a multi‑agency effort that executed more than 20 search warrants in the out‑of‑state component of the probe.
Board members and town representatives offered public thanks. One board member said smaller local agencies sometimes overperform on cases, and multiple supervisors echoed appreciation for the sheriff's office. The chair then led the board in a formal proclamation for Law Enforcement Week, which the board adopted by voice vote.
No formal policy action resulted from the recognition. The board proceeded with its agenda, including budget appropriations and other business.
