Sheriff's office reports steady call volume; Fire Company outlines ambulance and facility needs

Cpl. Tyler Price of the Sheriff's Office briefed the Port Deposit Town Council on public safety activity for April, reporting that 26 shifts were approved and covered and that roughly half of those shifts included radar enforcement. He reported seven calls for service in April, consistent with the prior month, and listed incidents including a suspended driver arrest, parking complaints, an abandoned vehicle, a tractor-trailer incident at Lee's Landing, a stolen vehicle report and a theft near the Powers Road warehouses. Council members asked for additional patrol attention on Granite Avenue because of dirt bike and moped activity and vehicles blocking the roadway.

During public comment Wayne Tome Sr., president of Water Witch Fire Company, thanked the council for its support and outlined several needs for the volunteer fire company: an anticipated ambulance purchase, bay door expansion, funding for sprinkler work, replacement of the company boat and chief's vehicle and long-term station expansion. The council encouraged continued coordination on those needs.

A young attendee, identified in the minutes as Preston, asked about ways to become involved in civics and local history; council members encouraged attendance at town and Planning Commission meetings and participation in volunteer opportunities.
