Director Scott Brandmeier told trustees the village’s current Avant skid steer has experienced motor and transmission problems; a motor replacement alone cost about $7,500, with installation labor estimated at $3,000–$5,000, and additional repairs could push total costs to $20,000–$30,000. Brandmeier said obtaining timely service from the current vendor has been difficult and that New Holland’s U.S. manufacturing and local dealer responsiveness justified the higher upfront price.
Brandmeier recommended purchasing the New Holland unit with a set of attachments (bucket, angle boom, grapple, etc.) and auctioning the old equipment and attachments as-is. Trustees approved the Milwaukee Tractor & Equipment quote for $117,060.
The purchase is to be funded from savings, other capital-project balances or the appropriate fund balance; staff said the village’s projected unappropriated fund balance at year-end was about $3.9 million and the purchase would represent a small portion of that balance.
