Drainage board approves INTERA contract to continue county water-availability monitoring

The Hamilton County Drainage Board on Feb. 23 approved a professional services agreement with INTERA to continue the county’s water-availability study, which funds data collection and maintenance of the monitor network.
Hamilton County Surveyor Gary Duncan said the contract for 2026 continues work to collect data and maintain the countywide monitoring network. He told the board that the Surveyor’s 2026 budget includes the contract and that half the cost is being funded by the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA).
Vice President Christine Altman asked whether the board should table the item to review alternatives and the source of funding; Heirbrandt and the Surveyor said the IFA already approved its share and the contract was included in the Surveyor’s submitted budget. Heirbrandt suggested a work session to let INTERA explain the program and the data to the board.
Altman moved to approve the contract on the basis that funding coverage was in place and that half was covered by IFA; Dillinger seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The contract continues ongoing monitoring for the water-availability study; the Surveyor indicated a possible invitation for INTERA to present in a work session to explain data and alternatives for 2027 participation by other county communities.
