Danielle Mitchell, acting deputy county administrator, asked the board to approve a 15-year lease of county-owned property at 10250 La Plata Road in La Plata to the Charitable Trust for $1 per year. Mitchell told commissioners the lease was advertised as required by state law and received no public comments.
A commissioner proposed renaming the facility the "Vivian Mills Nonprofit Center" to honor Vivian Mills's contributions to local nonprofit coordination and support; the speaker asked staff to coordinate a dedication event and contact Mills' family. The Charitable Trust's executive director is working on signage, logos and rebranding for the renamed center.
The board moved, seconded and approved the lease, the renaming and sign funding by voice vote during the May 19 meeting. Staff said Miss Burnett, executive director of the Charitable Trust, will work on signage and rebranding and will return with sign designs at a later time.
