Board recounts superintendent search; board had earlier hired School Leadership for up to $35,000

The Reinecke Union Free School District reviewed progress on finding a new superintendent, including the board’s decision to retain the search firm School Leadership and to allocate up to $35,000 for the effort.
"At our January 8 planning meeting, we unanimously passed a resolution to hire School Leadership and to spend up to $35,000 on the superintendent search," the Chair said, describing the board’s selection process. The board said it screened three firms, conducted reference checks and found School Leadership to be the unanimous favorite among members.
The board said two consultants from School Leadership will direct the process: Susan Wolin, described as a former president of the Bedford School District board and a past leader of the Westchester-Putnam schools association, and Dr. Kenneth Mitchell, identified as a former superintendent in Rockland County. The Chair said School Leadership offered to reduce some costs through a cooperative agreement with BOCES.
Officials said the district is soliciting community input to shape a candidate profile. The board invited parents, students, teachers, administrators, PTAs, the booster club, the school foundation and other community members to provide feedback via an online survey and to attend two focus groups scheduled for Jan. 27 and 28. The profile informed by that outreach will be reviewed on Feb. 5 and used in advertising the vacancy.
No candidates or timelines for interviews were announced at the public meeting. The board’s description of the contract and funding level was presented as background; the board earlier authorized the spending at the Jan. 8 planning session and reaffirmed that public update during this meeting.
