The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners on May 28 approved an application to the Nebraska Crime Commission for $12,521 in Community‑based Juvenile Services Aid to replace two doors at the CEDARS shelter. Human Services Director Sarah Hoyle explained the funds are a one‑time alternative‑to‑detention allocation intended to improve shelter safety and infrastructure.
The motion to approve was made by Commissioner Sean Flowerday and seconded by Vice Chair Chelsea Johnson; Flowerday, Johnson and Chair Christa Yoakum voted yes and the motion carried 3‑0. Matt Schulte and Rick Vest were absent.
The board did not attach additional conditions to the grant approval. The county will proceed with the application and subsequent contract actions as outlined by county staff.
