The Carbon County Board of Commissioners on June 8 adopted proclamation number 2026-012 recognizing June 2026 as Carbon County Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week, honoring staff who investigate abuse, support families and help keep children safe.
The proclamation—introduced by the clerk and read aloud by a county official—says local child-welfare workers routinely face dangerous situations while responding to reports of abuse and neglect, and that the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened recruitment and retention challenges. The board voted by voice to adopt the proclamation.
"I want to thank everyone at Children and Youth for what you do and the stress of your job," a commissioner said after the reading, noting caseworkers sometimes need police support for safety. A Children and Youth representative told the commissioners the agency’s mission is "to promote, provide, protect for the well-being of children within the community" and described investigation and in‑home services the department provides.
The proclamation calls on elected officials and the public to recognize the service and risks of child-welfare workers and to support recruitment and retention efforts locally. Commissioners noted the proclamation will be entered into the meeting record and asked staff to provide copies to the agency and to circulating partners.
