Centre County proclaims two weeks to honor child-welfare professionals and providers

The Centre County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday adopted Proclamation 32 recognizing two weeks in June to honor the county’s child-welfare workforce and contracted service providers.
Leah, speaking for county agency partners, described staffing levels and the emotional strain of the work. “When a person commits to working in child welfare, they are an agent of change,” she said, urging the public to recognize the impact of caseworkers and other staff.
Patty Flood, executive director of Fix, and other partner staff described the breadth of services and partnerships that support children and families, saying the agencies work with families experiencing mental-health challenges, substance use, poverty and homelessness. Presenters estimated agency and partner staffing at well over 100 people across county departments and provider organizations.
Commissioners praised the workforce and the partnerships, noting training and financial oversight requirements and the role of community organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters. The board voted to adopt the proclamation by voice vote.
The proclamation asks residents to acknowledge staff contributions during the designated weeks; the board did not attach policy or funding changes to the recognition.
