Clinton County IT director seeks $39,383 Synology backup appliance to replace subscription service

He said the one-time purchase price for the appliance is $39,383.45 and that the package includes an optional five-year support agreement from Synology as well as hardware such as a rail kit and a network interface for the server. The proposed purchase would replace the county’s current IBM Spectrum Protect subscription-based solution; the IT director described the proposed approach as a capital purchase with optional ongoing support rather than a continuing subscription.
When asked about cost, the IT director said he believes the county has budgeted funds to cover the purchase. No formal procurement vote or contract award was recorded in the work session transcript; commissioners thanked the IT director and moved to the next agenda item.
