The Charles County Board of License Commissioners approved a slate of temporary licenses, transfers and new licenses during a lengthy April 9 meeting.
Temporary one‑day Class C licenses were approved for Pullers of Southern Maryland (truck and tractor-pull fundraiser, June 27) and Camp Saint Charles (May 2 fundraiser). The board approved a one‑day license for the Maryland Veterans Memorial Museum's Taste of Southern Maryland event (April 26) contingent on the museum providing state permits for other alcohol vendors.
Transfer and new‑license approvals included the transfer of an off‑sale class D license to Newberg Market (Bubba LLC) contingent on UNO and health permits, a new Class B stadium (Crabs on Deck) concession license, and substitution of corporate officers for Hawthorne Country Club (nonprofit). The Cove at Cobb Island received tentative approval for a new restaurant/bar license with a proposed outdoor patio, subject to a fence requirement, ingress/egress exception in the motion and Planning & Growth Management approvals.
Several transfers and renewals were approved contingent on state comptroller or treasurer holds being released; the board granted limited extensions where state processes remained unresolved. One outdoor expansion request (Port Tobacco Marina Ship Store) was denied after members raised concerns about restrooms, electricity and safety at the proposed riverside location.
Board members made multiple contingent approvals to ensure required state and county permits are received before licenses are fully effective. The board stressed that required documentation — UNO, health permits or landlord affidavits — must be filed with the clerk to finalize licenses.
