The commissioners on May 13 approved acquisition of a 4.45-acre parcel known as the Buterbaugh Property from Alicia Catanese for $181,200. The tract on Groft Road in Rayne Township sits adjacent to Blue Spruce Park and includes a house, garage, storage shed and apple orchard.
Parks representative Ed Patterson asked the board to approve the purchase and outlined the funding plan: $91,909 from the Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund; $25,000 from the Indiana County Park Legacy Fund (donations to the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies); and $64,291 from the Indiana County Park Enterprise Fund (park rental fees). The minutes state no general county tax dollars will be used for the acquisition. The purchase will increase Blue Spruce Park to 649 acres.
The motion was carried unanimously. County staff will proceed with closing and park integration tasks following standard land-acquisition procedures.
