Council tables classification and compensation resolution after staff flag pay-rate errors

Staff said there was a scripting or transcription error on some grade classifications and on a pay-rate calculation. A staff member explained that an item intended as a grade change was off by a classification (for example a pay grade mistakenly listed) and that an earlier pay adjustment figure required correction; the corrected figures yielded a 1.65% increase for firefighter pay. "I made an error on that including the 1.87%... Now that increased the firefighter salary by 1.65%," staff said during the discussion.
Council discussed options for addressing the errors, and staff proposed tabling the resolution to the next regular council meeting to allow payroll and HR staff to correct documentation and prepare an explanatory letter to employees. Council agreed to table the resolution until the July 8 meeting to ensure accurate calculations and clear communication to affected employees; staff said payroll systems would not load new rates until after the first full payroll in July.
No vote on final adoption occurred; the resolution was tabled to allow staff time to correct the materials and return with final documentation.
