Local foundation thanks council for support of sickle cell awareness event

Doris Ealy, speaking on behalf of the James Earl Papamore and Sympathetic Foundation and its satellite office, thanked the mayor and council for financial and in‑kind assistance that helped the foundation host a Main Street sickle cell awareness event.
Ealy said the event screened 12 individuals for sickle cell trait, facilitated blood donations and included families who traveled from other areas to participate. She described emotional moments including family tributes displayed on a digital billboard honoring people lost to sickle cell disease and urged the city to recognize sickle cell awareness day in Lancaster County as an official event.
Mayor DeBeney and other council members thanked Ealy and praised volunteers and staff who supported the event.
