City staff (identified in the meeting as Hetefus) told the council the two-day festival would be held at the green space at Main and Gay streets with performers and vendors; staff said the event will run 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Hetefus told the council that staff had coordinated with the police department and asked the council to pass the resolution so vendors with Department of Revenue authorization can sell on-premise.
Council members discussed whether alcohol would harm the family-friendly nature of the event and noted good vendor carding and police presence at previous festivals. One council member singled out a vendor for consistently checking IDs: “I commended the young lady at 5 21 barbecue” for carding. The motion to approve was moved and seconded and passed by roll-call; the clerk recorded 11 affirmative votes.
Council and staff named participating businesses as 5 21 Barbecue, LA Taproom and Todd Hills (availability and individual hours may vary by vendor). Staff said festival operations and vendor licensing will remain subject to Department of Revenue and local event rules.
