Resident urges Lancaster to condemn long-vacant Anderson Drive property

At the public-comment portion of the Lancaster City Council meeting, a resident identified as Larry described a long-vacant house on Anderson Drive that he said has been "an absolute wreck" for eight to ten years and asked the city to enforce property-maintenance rules.
"The owner of that property has consent letter by the state, but that does not seem to do any good," Larry told the council. He said the uncut shrubs and vines, falling limbs and general disrepair have depressed neighboring property values and asked the council to "condemn the property and have it demolished at the expense of the owner" if the owner ignores city notices.
Larry said the house adjoins the home of the widow of a longtime resident he was supporting and urged the council to act so neighbors are not required to tolerate the condition. The public comment did not prompt an immediate staff report or formal vote during the meeting; the matter was presented to the council for consideration.
