Planning Commission schedules accessory-building hearing, approves temporary fireworks tent; residents object to cell tower

At the May 21 meeting, the Harrison Township Planning Commission took several additional procedural and administrative actions.
The commission voted to schedule a public hearing on proposed zoning ordinance amendments addressing accessory buildings (including boat wells, boathouses and carports). Planner Adam Young said the topic has been under discussion at recent meetings and the commission approved moving the amendments to a public hearing.
The commission also approved a temporary fireworks sales permit for a 20-by-40-foot tent submitted by Ali Luaibi of Captain's Party Store at 25510 North River Road, authorizing sales from June 15 through July 5, 2026; commissioners found the proposal fits Township standards for the district.
During comments from the floor, resident C. William Bardill spoke in opposition to a proposed cell tower that had been discussed at the Tech Team meeting; resident David Drewek expressed opposition to changes in accessory building rules concerning covered boat wells. Several items discussed at Tech Team will return for further review.
