Harrison Township sets hearings and adopts special assessments for multiple street and seawall projects

At its May 26 meeting the Charter Township of Harrison Board of Trustees advanced multiple road and seawall projects by adopting or directing special assessment rolls and scheduling further hearings where required.
Mallast Street: After a public hearing the board adopted Resolution No. 3 directing preparation of a special assessment roll for the Mallast Street improvement. The engineer’s estimate reported an estimated project cost of $30,042.25 divided among 47 lots (about $639.20 per lot and an estimated annual payment of $230.16). The board also adopted Resolution No. 4 to file the assessment roll and set a second public hearing for June 22, 2026.
Ponchartrain Street: The board adopted Resolution No. 3 for Ponchartrain Street, approving an estimated project cost of $31,559.10 to be divided equally among 35 lots (about $901.69 per lot; estimated annual payment $324.36) and later adopted Resolution No. 4 to set the second hearing for June 22, 2026.
Shoreline Drive: The board adopted Resolution No. 3 for Shoreline Drive road improvements with an estimated total of $80,950.45 across 73 lots (about $1,108.91 per lot; estimated annual payment $398.99) and adopted Resolution No. 4 setting the second public hearing for June 22, 2026.
Elm Lane Seawall: Following a public hearing that included both opposition and support from residents, the board adopted Resolution No. 3 for the Elm Lane seawall installation. The estimated project cost is $438,281.18 for the district’s 48 lots. The resolution records different per-lot estimates by subarea: Pointe Rosa lots (16) estimated at $13,696.29 per lot with an estimated annual payment of $1,299.84; Elm Lane lots (32) estimated at $6,848.14 per lot with an estimated annual payment of $649.92. The board also adopted Resolution No. 4 to set the second hearing for June 22, 2026.
Pointe Rosa: The clerk reported bids received for the Pointe Rosa road improvement were higher than projected and the project will not move forward in 2026. The board heard public comment on this item.
Public comment: During the Elm Lane hearing, residents expressed both positions: James Wrobel and Josh Hull spoke against the project; Fred Draska, Paul Miliati and C. William Bardill spoke in favor. The transcript notes public comment during the Mallast and Ponchartrain hearings as well.
All votes adopting resolution texts were recorded as unanimous where shown. The clerk is to file assessment rolls and provide required publication and mail notices in advance of the June 22 hearings.
