Uniontown council approves Sunrise Meadows plat, approves Tarragon annexation; another annexation fails; VFW lease amended

Uniontown’s City Council on May 11 approved a 28‑lot final plat, accepted one annexation request and rejected another, and authorized a temporary lease amendment with the local VFW to accommodate senior‑center renovations.
The council passed Resolution 18‑75 to accept the Sunrise Meadows final plat. City staff member Chris Bass said Sunrise Meadows LLC and JMP 2 Properties LLC have installed required infrastructure, posted performance and maintenance bonds, and met the conditions of the preliminary plat (Ordinance 27‑88). Following Bass’s staff report the council moved and approved the resolution by voice vote.
On annexations, Resolution 18‑76 (the Kazer Mezic annexation) failed after council discussion. Bass reported staff recommended modifying the petition area but the motion to approve the resolution did not carry. By contrast, the council approved Resolution 18‑77 for the Tarragon annexation. Bass described the Tarragon proposal as roughly 18 acres on the city’s east side, with a 2026 County Assessor valuation of about $4,000,000; staff recommended modifying the petition to include six parcels and noted the applicant offered to reimburse city review costs. The chair recorded the final tally on the Tarragon motion as five yes, one no.
The council also approved Resolution 18‑78, a second amendment to the city’s lease with VFW Post 1949 to provide temporary, exclusive weekday use of the VFW Hall for senior‑center programs while the Enumclaw Senior Center is renovated. Parks Director Alina Hibbs said the amendment grants exclusive access June 1–Sept. 30, 2026 (with two pre‑existing rentals excepted) and that the city will compensate the VFW $6,800 from the project budget; small ADA improvements to the VFW Hall will also be paid from the project budget.
What council approved and next steps: Resolution 18‑75 (Sunrise Meadows) finalizes plat recording conditions and allows the developer to proceed with lot sales per city requirements; the Kazer Mezic annexation (Res. 18‑76) failed and requires no further action unless resubmitted; the Tarragon annexation (Res. 18‑77) cleared the council and will move forward per state annexation timelines; Res. 18‑78 authorizes the mayor to execute the VFW lease amendment and directs staff to complete the temporary relocation arrangements. Staff indicated project bonds, recordings, and standard administrative follow‑up will be completed in the coming weeks.
