Hastings council clears Summerfest, Memorial Day parade, block parties and Rotary skate-park MOU
Summary

The Hastings City Council on May 11, 2026, authorized several community events and a partnership agreement with the Hastings Rotary.
The council approved the American Legion Post 45 annual Memorial Day Parade to be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026, under staff direction. The council also consented to three block-party street dances requested by the Hastings Business Connection, scheduled for June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15, 2026, with Brian Reynolds addressing council questions about the events.
The council adopted Resolution 2026-08 to permit the Hastings Summerfest Committee to hold Summerfest on Aug. 28–30, 2026, across Fish Hatchery Park, Tyden Park, parking lots #4 and #5, Spray Plaza and Thornapple Plaza, and to stay necessary ordinances to conduct the event. The motion carried with recorded ayes from all members present.
Separately, the council authorized execution of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hastings Rotary related to the proposed skate park; council discussion addressed elements of the proposed skate park and the partnership. All event and MOU actions recorded unanimous support among members present.
