Councilmembers expressed strong support for Schroeder’s appointment, praising continuity and staff leadership during the comprehensive plan and hiring process. "I thank you very much for the opportunity, and I look forward to working with you," Schroeder said after the appointment.
The council had earlier heard public comment calling for ETech’s reinstatement and more technical support for groundwater work. Former ETech chair Charlie Cratcher reviewed ETech’s contributions and alleged that some important ETech recommendations were not incorporated into the groundwater management process, citing two modeling shortcuts (removing surface–groundwater interaction and not running the model in steady state mode). Councilmembers responded that scientific expertise is needed and moved to "interview and to staff the environmental technical advisory committee" with deliberate haste; that motion passed unanimously.
The appointment and the ETech staffing direction were recorded as unanimous votes; staff signaled they will proceed with interviews and return with appointments in April for June seating on advisory committees.
