The Planning Commission unanimously voted Jan. 8 to refer a draft set of guiding principles from the Race Equity Advisory Committee (REAC) to the steering committee for integration into the introduction chapter of the comprehensive plan.
Caitlin Lombardi, co‑chair of the REAC, presented the draft principles and said they reflect research and months of committee work to center equity, historical context and inclusion in the planning process. After questions, Commissioner Sean moved that the commission refer the REAC suggested guiding principles to the steering committee so that body could provide recommended updates to the introduction chapter; the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the commission voted to recommend retaining and updating the introduction sections (data, history and vision) with staff‑led updates and explicitly broadened language on affordable housing to emphasize community goals in addition to legal requirements. Commissioner Sean’s motion asked staff to update data and expand the framing of affordability as important to community vibrancy; the motion passed unanimously.
These actions do not adopt the REAC text as plan policy; rather they direct further review by the steering committee and staff updates to the introduction for later review.
