WSF to allow dogs at one end of vessels inside cabins; policy becomes permanent July 1

Washington State Ferries told the Ferry Advisory Committee it will make permanent a revised pet policy that allows dogs inside vessel cabins at the designated "number one" end of boats, keeping animals away from galleys and food concession areas.
"Rather than dogs being allowed everywhere on the vessel, we're kind of found this middle ground," said Tali Teal, community and legislative liaison for Washington State Ferries. Teal said the revised policy begins a transitional rollout May 19 with signage and pamphlets; enforcement and full policy implementation will start July 1.
Hadley Rodero, deputy director of external relations for Washington State Ferries, said terminals and vessel crews will receive guidance and that pet-waste stations will be installed where needed. Committee members welcomed the compromise and emphasized the importance of locating pets away from food service areas.
WSF will post a written description of the policy and FAQs and will include the information in upcoming community meetings.
Next steps: WSF will provide written policy language to FAC members for posting on county Engage pages and will include the policy in community meeting materials.
