Planning director Patty Charness says April 23 is her last meeting; urges commission to finish preferred alternative

During the April 23 meeting Planning and Community Development Director Patty Charness told the commission she was stepping away from her role and used the director's report to summarize staff recommendations before departing.
"As I step away from my role as planning director, I want to share my sincere appreciation to each of you... Serving alongside this commission has been one of the most rewarding things during my time with Bainbridge Island," Charness said, thanking commissioners for their preparation and service. She said staff had been reviewing recent council motions and a substantive letter from the Washington Department of Commerce and recommended the commission complete its preferred alternative, hold a public hearing on the recommended preferred alternative in the code and then forward the record to council for decision.
Charness asked the commission to take pride in the work completed to date and said staff would provide recommendations to the interim city manager for next steps. Commissioners thanked Charness and offered public remarks of appreciation; Charness indicated she would try to attend the April 30 meeting but otherwise said this would be her final official meeting.
The commission asked staff to ensure council motions and Commerce comments are included in the public-hearing draft and supporting appendices before the hearing.
