San Juan County updates parks and fair fee schedule, raises some fair ticket and vendor rates

Brandon Andrews, San Juan County Parks and Fair Director, presented the changes and said the department consolidated the fee table into a cleaner version for council review. He described a set of targeted adjustments: firewood bundles rising from $5 to $8; adult single-day fair tickets increasing from $15 to $20; a new $15 adult presale ticket; outside vendor booth fees split into two subcategories (without electricity $235; with electricity $255); flea market booth fees rising from $40 to $50 per weekend; off-site chair rentals increasing from $1 to $2 per chair; and a new 15-by-30 high-peak stage canopy tent rental priced at $500.
Andrews also proposed two additional changes to be added as amendments: horse-program class fees (from $7 to $10, and $20 during fair week) and stall fees from $35 to $50. Council members praised the staff’s effort to balance revenue needs with community access and noted the fairgrounds’ role as a year-round community asset and an emergency facility. Councilor McPhee complimented Andrews’ work on the complex pricing decisions.
After discussion, a councilmember moved to approve the fee schedule as amended; the motion received a second and passed. Council members emphasized that discounts for children, seniors and active-duty military remain unchanged and that the adult season pass price was not increased (it remains $30).
What happens next: Staff will publish an updated, signed fee resolution and incorporate the new rates into fair and fairgrounds operations and promotional materials. Andrews said he would send an updated clean copy to staff for signature and coordinate public messaging about any changes to ticketing.
