Board approves two student liaisons and alternates under new nonvoting representation policy

Jones recommended "Nathan Monter and Layla Robinson" as senior liaisons and two alternates, Zechariah Evans and Mikayla Epps. He stressed the student liaisons are not voting members and do not participate in closed sessions, but they may be invited to give input on policy matters that affect students.
A board member moved to approve the superintendent's selections; the motion was seconded and passed. Jones and staff said they will work with the new liaisons on schedules and opportunities to provide input at meetings and training, including November's Virginia School Boards Association events for student liaisons.
Next steps: staff will notify the students and incorporate liaison participation into the board's August meeting schedule.
