Mayor Ben Klinger called the Goodview City Council to order Sept. 8, and the council opened a public hearing on a Conditional Use Permit application to allow a licensed cannabis micro retail business at 875 34th Avenue.
Stephen Weik, representing the applicant, told the council the proposed business would sell only pre-packaged cannabis products and would not permit on-site consumption either inside or outside the building. He said, according to city requirements, the business would comply with applicable ordinances and guidelines if the CUP is approved.
Nearby property owners Sue Schreiner and Kathy Mason spoke during the public comment period, raising concerns about the type of business, the number of minor children in the area, potential traffic impacts and hours of operation. Their remarks emphasized neighborhood safety and suitability for a C-1R Commercial Restricted zone.
After hearing the applicant and public comment, the council voted to table Resolution No. 1283, the measure that would approve the CUP, until the Sept. 22, 2025 meeting. The motion to table was made by Councilmember Dick Ledebuhr, seconded by Councilmember Sandra Ramirez, and carried with all members voting aye. No formal approval or denial of the CUP was taken at the Sept. 8 meeting.
The CUP will return to the council’s Sept. 22 agenda for further consideration; in the meantime, staff and council members may review the public concerns and any additional materials submitted by the applicant or neighbors.
