Goodview council adds remote-control racing as conditional use, approves CUP for 5220 6th Street through October

The Goodview City Council on June 16 adopted an amendment to Chapter 154 of the city code to add Remote Control Racing Events as a conditional use in the M‑1 Light Manufacturing district and approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for 5220 6th Street.

The council opened a public hearing at 5:05 p.m. on the proposed zoning amendment and a second hearing at 5:09 p.m. on the CUP application. Applicant Trevor Dailey told the council he submitted a list of planned race dates and expected the events to run through the end of October. The CUP as drafted would have expired at the end of September; the city attorney advised the council the resolution could be amended to extend the permit through October, and the council approved that change.

Dailey asked whether events could run past 10:00 p.m.; council members declined, noting the city’s standard event end time and keeping the 10 p.m. restriction in the approved CUP. The council recorded unanimous approval among members present for the ordinance and the CUP.

Why it matters: the ordinance creates a permanent zoning pathway for organized remote-control racing in light manufacturing areas, and the CUP allows the specific property at 5220 6th Street to host events this season through October under the city’s standard hours. That creates a local events option while preserving the city’s nighttime noise limits.

The ordinance change (Ordinance 2025‑02) and the CUP (Resolution No. 1280, as amended to October) were approved by motion and recorded as carrying with all present voting aye. The city attorney and staff indicated no public comments were filed in writing, and no other conditions were noted in the minutes. The council adjourned at 5:30 p.m.; the council will next meet July 7, 2025, when the adopted ordinance and CUP will remain on the administrative record.
