Goodview resident proposes weekly RC race nights; council requests ordinance options

Trevor Dailey, representing Island City RC and Graphic Design of Winona, asked the council for permission to hold RC race-car events at his property on Thursday evenings beginning in June and continuing through the fall. He proposed the events start at 6:00 p.m. and not run much past 10:00 p.m., suggested using parking at Rocco's and the Mississippi Welders lot, and said noise "shouldn't be an issue as the cars are quieter than an electric cordless drill."
Council members expressed concern about parking and noise and noted the city had already consulted the city attorney, who suggested the council could either issue a conditional-use permit for the event or adopt a citywide Event Ordinance to govern similar activities. The council directed administration to have the attorney draft sample CUP language and an Event Ordinance for consideration at the May 19 meeting.
