Grafton council certifies June 11 election results; Greg Young named council president

The Grafton City Council on July 8 formally certified the June 11, 2024 city/primary election results and elected new council leadership.
Mayor Chris West reported that oaths of office for officials elected June 11 had been signed, notarized and filed. City Attorney Nicholas B. Hall administered the formal oath of office to newly elected members before the council voted to adopt Resolution No. 1797, declaring the results of the 2024 election. The motion to adopt Resolution No. 1797 was made by Council Member Greg Young and seconded by Council Member Phil Ray; all seven members present voted in favor, with Council Member Brian Sieben absent.
Council then adopted Resolution No. 1798 related to the June 11 election and proceeded to organization of council leadership. Donavon McMillian nominated Greg Young as president and Phil Ray as vice president and moved that a unanimous vote be cast for both; Loree Osowski seconded. The roll call vote was unanimous among members present.
Why it matters: Certifying election results and selecting leadership are routine but essential steps that allow the council to proceed with its business under newly confirmed officers. The actions taken at the meeting put the council’s organizational structure in place immediately.
The council moved on to other agenda items after completing the organization and certification votes.
