Coffee County committee hears progress reports on health department, animal shelter and library projects

The chair reported the new health department facility is in the final stages: interior cleaning is in progress, flooring and baseboards are installed, exterior work is finished and a punch-list walkthrough is scheduled. "We're doing a punch list actually tomorrow," the chair said.
The animal shelter project is 100% complete and staff are reviewing closeout documents; the chair noted a blind fence will be installed via a change order and that the shelter’s manager, Craig, is already moving equipment into the facility.
At the Manchester Library, two environmental companies performed air-quality testing: one passed while the other failed due to contaminated air handlers. The chair described work to disassemble and deep-clean the units and said retesting was expected soon. "We passed one of them. The other one did not pass and reason being is because of the air handlers," the chair said.
The county supervisor discussed roof projects: a budgetary figure for a Manchester Library roof replacement was presented at about $613,000, though final costs will be determined through a public bid process. The supervisor also said the Justice Center roof is scheduled to begin June 22 with an estimated six to eight-week timeline and that competitive bidding on the Justice Center roof resulted in savings from the original $2.1 million budget to a roughly $1.4 million low bid, leaving about $600,000 in potential surplus funds.
The supervisor added that lighting work at the old courthouse is underway but installation awaits a controller to meet the desired scheduling and zoning functions.
Committee members opted to postpone a detailed decision on the Manchester roof until the next meeting to allow time for review. The committee set its next meeting for July 2 at 4:00 p.m. and adjourned after roughly 21 minutes.
