The Orangeburg County Council unanimously adopted a proclamation recognizing Sept. 6 as "Fairy Tale Not So Fairy Day" in honor of Brittany Lashan Harmon and her community program that provides care packages, hygiene items and family support.
Councilman Joseph Garvin read the proclamation, describing the program's mission to meet families "where they are" and list services including bra fittings, hygiene products and care packages. "Whereas this initiative ... provide particular assistance while inspiring relentless self-worth," Garvin read as the council considered the proclamation.
A motion to adopt the proclamation was made by Miss Frasier and seconded by Mr. McCasser. Councilmembers responded "I," and the chair announced the motion carried. County Clerk Connie Patique recorded the proclamation text as part of the council record. The adoption was followed by photographs and applause.
Afterward, the honoree addressed the council, thanking Garvin and others for their support. "I'm just grateful. Thank you so much," she said, adding she looks forward to impacting Orangeburg and the surrounding area.
