Lexington swears in Mayor Pro Tim Ron Williams and two council members

Lexington held an oath of office ceremony at the start of its Dec. 1 council meeting, administering the statutory oath to three reelected members.
Mayor Hazel Livingston introduced the ceremony and invited Council Member Todd KS to come forward. With his left hand on a Bible and his right hand raised, Todd KS recited the oath of office, pledging to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of this state and of the United States" and to "equally, fairly, and impartially" discharge the duties of the office.
Mayor Pro Tim Ron Williams was sworn in next; his oath was administered by Charlie Spate and he was joined by his wife Katherine. "I do solemnly swear that I am duly qualified according to the constitution of the state to exercise the duties of the office to which I have been elected," Williams recited when administered the oath.
Council Member Gavin J. Smith's oath was administered with former U.S. Ambassador Edward McMullen participating and Matthew Smith holding the Bible. Following the three oaths, council offered congratulations and recessed briefly before beginning the regular meeting.
The oath of office items concluded the ceremonial portion of the evening and the council proceeded to its regular agenda.
