The Planning Commission on June 3 voted to recommend City Council approve a plan-on-overlay sign package for a proposed Bucky’s convenience store and travel plaza at 3355 Elm Road.
Teresa Stevens, presenting for staff, summarized a proposed package for the ~30.7-acre site that would allow multiple attached building signs, canopy signage, an interstate ground sign and a painted roof sign (the latter is not permitted under the existing sign ordinance). The plan also seeks allowances for temporary grand-opening signs, banners and seasonal inflatables for a limited period.
Stevens walked commissioners through current ordinance limits and the specific deviations the applicant requested. The commission opened the public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Commissioners discussed the proposed sizes and illumination of the signs and confirmed that staff will include standard conditions and clarify any temporary sign durations before forwarding the recommendation.
The commission approved the motion to recommend the plan-on-overlay to City Council by roll call.
