County Clerk Susan Carrian updated commissioners that the county received notification of a HAVA election-security grant providing 90% reimbursement up to an amount described in the record as $53,476.20 (the county’s submitted request was $59,418). The clerk said the award left limited time to order equipment and that staff have requested an extension to allow procurement and delivery.
Carrian described planned physical improvements to Memorial Hall to create a climate‑controlled centralized location for election equipment, including a garage‑style mezzanine to allow easier rolling of equipment into polling locations and upgraded storage areas for materials. Staff said the improvements would also benefit Memorial Hall by improving its storage and functionality for community events.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for staff work to submit the grant and asked staff to follow up on extensions and procurement timing; they also noted the county’s 10% match obligation and that staff will report back with details on where the local 10% will come from in the budget.
