Council accepts federal SS4A grant for intersection safety improvements

The Klamath Falls City Council authorized acceptance of a federal SS4A (Safe Streets and Roads for All) grant on June 1 and empowered the city manager to sign the required documents with the Federal Highway Administration.
Public Works Director Mark Wilbert told council the city submitted the grant more than two years ago for safety improvements at several intersections with elevated crash and injury rates, including Main at 3rd, Main at 5th and Pine at 11th; staff has worked through the federal contracting steps and is ready to begin design and construction tasks with council approval.
Councilors moved and seconded acceptance of the grant and approved signing authority by voice vote. The project will proceed to design and later construction as federal contracting permits.
