Pastor Angie Angela Lumberry opened the meeting with a prayer for the deputy’s family and first responders, asking the community to ‘‘keep Deputy Utt’s family, friends, fellow deputies, and all first responders in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.’’ The board then observed a moment of silence before reading the memorial resolution aloud and voting to present a copy to the deputy’s family and place it in the county’s permanent records.
The resolution, read into the record by the chair, described Deputy Utt’s service as ‘‘faithful’’ and said his ‘‘selfless service, unwavering commitment to duty, and willingness to run toward danger’’ exemplified the best of law enforcement. The board voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
Supervisors used the comments period and member remarks to express condolences and to thank law‑enforcement, emergency‑response personnel, and those in the community who supported first responders during the recent incident. Supervisor Horton said he was ‘‘personally grateful for his service to our county and our community,’’ and several members described large community memorial events and multi‑county support for the family.
A member announced a memorial fund set up at Skyline National Bank to accept donations for the deputy’s family. The board also noted that Personal Touch Florist contributed memorial ribbons left in the meeting room.
The meeting closed with the board asking staff to present the resolution to the family and with reminders about ongoing community supports for those affected.
