Commissioner Mark Serbrook read the resolution text that described the memorial park as a place to honor service, provide educational resources and host ceremonies. The board considered two nearly identical versions: one specifically referenced Consumers Energy grant funding and the second was a generic version designed for any potential funding source. "Be it resolved that Ogemaw County Board of Commissioners hereby expresses its full support for the development of a county veterans memorial park," Commissioner Serbrook read while presenting the measure.
Commissioners voted to adopt the resolutions and to sign a letter of support so that requested grant applications can meet an imminent deadline. The board also approved a separate request that the chair sign the letters on behalf of the board.
Commissioners said they supported making the application process efficient so opportunities are not lost. The measures passed without recorded opposition during the meeting; board members noted two different forms were provided so staff could submit the applicant-specific packet required by some funders and a generic packet for others.
Next steps: staff will finalize and sign letters of support and submit the grant applications where required.
