Council approves $120,000 to outfit new $1.2 million Imperial fire engine

The City of Imperial voted 5-0 to authorize $120,000 to outfit a newly purchased $1.2 million fire engine with firefighting hose, rescue equipment, cardiac monitors, EMS supplies and other apparatus-specific gear.
Fire Department staff introduced the engine, which is parked outside the council chambers, and said the vehicle strengthens the department's frontline and reserve capacity. Chief and staff described the vehicle as a long-term investment, estimating the truck will serve about 10 years in frontline service and up to 15 years in reserve.
Mr. Victor told the council the equipment request covers items such as hose, rescue tools and medical monitoring equipment. Council members asked operational questions — including how the engine will be assigned and proposals for combining department insignia with county logos — and staff said they would develop options and coordinate implementation.
The council discussed logistics informally and then approved the request by voice vote (5-0). Staff will proceed to purchase the ordered equipment and report back when the engine is placed in service.
