Orleans Parish School Board approves multiple policy and contract items; one employee-dismissal amendment fails

At its June 4 meeting the Orleans Parish School Board approved several policy amendments, budget and contract renewals and naming-rights deals and rejected an amendment to the employee dismissal/abandonment policy (item 5.6). The board also authorized mediation in a construction lawsuit during executive session.
The Orleans Parish School Board on June 4 approved a slate of policy changes, contract renewals and budget amendments and rejected one proposed amendment to its employee-dismissal policy.
At the meeting the board adopted amendments to policies including FDC (naming of facilities), HA (schoolboard chartering authority), HV (oversight and evaluation of charter schools), GBRI (personnel leaves and absences), GBO (resignation) and GBG (probation/introductory period). The board also approved a second amendment to the FY2026 general fund budget and renewed several legal services contracts through June 30, 2027.
Action on policy GBN (dismissal of employees), item 5.6, failed. The administration had proposed clarifying the policy's abandonment language to refer to three or more consecutive work days; public commenter Colette Tippy urged additional due-process safeguards and notice requirements. After debate the board did not obtain the necessary support to approve the amended motion, and the item failed to pass.
Other approved items included contract renewals and fee authorizations under resolutions 12-26, 13-26 and 14-26 for outside legal counsel and a budget amendment for the FY2026 general fund (resolution 11-26).
During the meeting the board also moved into executive session and later approved, in closed session, mediation authority recommended by legal counsel in pending construction litigation involving the district.
The board approved the listed consent, policy and contract items by motion and roll call where required; the transcript records recorded 'yes' votes on many renewals and approvals and records one recorded opposition on the stadium-naming vote noted elsewhere. No new ordinance or code change was adopted beyond the policy amendments presented at second reading.
