The Planning Commission on June 3 received and filed the second three-month review report of Mr. J's bar at 7824 Alandre Boulevard.
Building and Housing Manager Ivan Reyes told the commission that staff conducted a site visit and found the business in compliance with the conditions from prior approvals: the remodeled façade and landscaping work were complete, security-camera and management plans remained operational, and the seating count remained at 33. Public-safety records provided to staff showed one calls-for-service incident between February and May, down from four in the earlier review period; parking-related complaints were noted but did not involve criminal activity.
A neighbor's emailed complaint was summarized to the commission alleging an intoxicated person knocked on a private door and repeated observations of discarded cups near residences. Alfredo Lopez, the business owner, responded during the meeting that his staff cleans the property every morning, that security is posted on the busier nights (two guards on Friday and Saturday), and that he maintains contact with nearby residents to address issues promptly. Lopez also said many calls used the bar as a point of reference rather than describing incidents inside the venue.
The commission accepted the report; staff said metrics and the public-safety record will be included in a six-month review for the live-entertainment permit to be considered by City Council.
