Lycoming County honors deputy warden Chris Ebner at retirement ceremony

Lycoming County commissioners and staff on June 8 recognized Deputy Warden Chris Ebner, known to colleagues as “Bubba,” at a retirement celebration after a 35-year county career.
Ebner began in 1991 as a part‑time resident supervisor at the pre‑release center and later served as an adult probation officer, bail program manager and deputy warden of inmate services. County speakers credited him with building an expanded bail release program that helped reduce jail population, participating in the county re‑entry coalition and advancing treatment‑centered approaches for incarcerated people.
Brad, a colleague who introduced Ebner, described his work in mental‑health initiatives and reentry efforts and said the bail program “was a key contributor to reducing jail population in Lycoming County.” In his own remarks, Ebner told colleagues, “I don’t need the recognition. For those that truly know me, you just show up, you work, put in a hard day’s work,” and thanked his family and coworkers for their support.
Several commissioners and former officials praised Ebner’s leadership and mentorship. A former commissioner said Ebner “always had an innate compassion and empathy” that translated into policies balancing public‑safety needs and treatment, and multiple colleagues recalled his role on the hostage negotiation team and in collaborative efforts with courts and treatment providers.
The commissioners presented Ebner with an honor and wished him well in retirement; the board then moved on to the rest of their agenda.
