Mitchell honors Dr. Lucio Margallo and Councilmember Susan Sharkey

Mayor Jordan Hanson read proclamations honoring two local leaders.
The council recognized Dr. Lucio N. Margallo II for more than five decades of medical service at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, his roles in medical education with the University of South Dakota, leadership in the South Dakota State Medical Association and volunteer humanitarian work. The mayor and assembled council praised his career and wished him well in retirement.
The council also presented a proclamation to City Councilmember Susan Sharkey for her service as Ward 4 representative and for prior service on the Mitchell School Board; the proclamation noted Sharkey’s local business ownership and named projects she supported, including Lake Mitchell restoration and plans for an indoor aquatic facility. Sharkey told the council she will not seek re‑election in 2026.
Both proclamations were met with applause from the audience and brief remarks of thanks.
