Commission hears updates on resurfacing, restrooms, events and upcoming budget items

At its June 3 meeting the Vacaville Parks & Recreation Commission received several operational and program updates from staff, including maintenance completions, scheduled closures and summer event plans.
Park maintenance staff reported that tennis court resurfacing at Three Oaks and Canon Station parks is complete and that the courts were repainted in the industry standard blue and green color scheme used at major tournaments. Staff said Peyton basketball court resurfacing was also completed. The parks department announced restroom closures for epoxy flooring installation: Andrews Park and Lagoon Valley Park restrooms will be closed June 22–26, and Arlington Park restrooms will be closed June 22–30; temporary restrooms will be provided at Arlington for that week and the department will post signage and social media notices.
Commissioners gave a committee update on the Play for All project: the applicant submitted revised plans, the city approved new plans and work on the dog‑park portion will proceed with a goal of completing remaining work by year‑end. Staff noted PlayFall Park will be closed June 29–July 3 for resurfacing and will reopen for July 4 activities.
Park planning manager Nemo Gonzalez reported Trower Park is nearing completion and Sierra Vista’s renovation is progressing; the department typically requires an establishment period (about 90 days) for plant material before public opening and expects a grand opening later this summer.
Acting recreation manager Tiffany Richie Western outlined summer programming: the youth triathlon on May 17 had nearly 60 participants; the Creek Walk concert series returns with themed appreciation nights for teachers (June 26), public safety (July 10) and healthcare workers (July 24); Walter Graham Aquatic Center will open for daily summer hours starting June 8; and family events include dive‑in movies and an Aug. 15 cardboard boat regatta.
Director Bruce reminded the commission that the City Council meeting on June 9 will include the annual budget item and discussion of a potential tax measure; he said staff will bring an informational parks department budget item to the commission in August and that the commission does not meet in July (next meeting Aug. 5).
The commission closed the meeting with brief commissioner remarks about local park improvements and community events.
