Round Lake board approves Wayground, curriculum and other contracts; personnel action split

At its June 1, 2026 meeting the Round Lake Area Board of Education approved several vendor and curriculum contracts and took votes on personnel items.
Contracts approved by roll call votes included a multi‑year agreement with Wayground for $73,083 to replace Nearpod and Edpuzzle; a FiveStar student‑incentive platform contract for $8,145; a six‑year Amplify ELA middle‑school curriculum purchase (bundled digital and consumable materials) for $224,799.96 (six‑year term, paid upfront per the board memo); a multi‑year Goodheart‑Willcox comprehensive health curriculum for secondary students for $128,549.96; and a one‑year New York Times educational subscription for the high school for $2,782. Finance committee members had vetted enrollment/pricing, professional development and license reuse for each item before the board vote.
The board also approved routine business items earlier in the meeting, including minutes and a consent agenda that included an accounts‑payable report listed in the packet as $1,438,390.53 and the June 1 employment report.
On personnel, after closed‑session deliberations the board returned to open session and considered two dismissals. A motion to dismiss an educational support staff member (for reasons other than reduction in force) failed on roll call. A separate motion to dismiss a probationary teacher, Martin Baker, passed on roll call.
Votes on each contract were recorded by roll call in the meeting transcript; the motions carried with the board members recorded in favor unless otherwise noted in the transcript. Board members asked procurement and finance questions about per‑student licensing, upfront shipping and the ability to reuse digital licenses; administrators said finance and vendor negotiations had addressed those concerns.
