City staff updated the Parks and Recreation Commission on June 4 that they are preparing a request for proposals (RFP/RFQ) to design and construct a replacement playground at Sarzati Park and to meet an approaching grant timeline.
"We can possibly file for an extension in the fall, but if we get started now... they're hoping that within 30 days we would have somebody chosen," staff member Christy said, describing conversations with the grant administrator and the need to move promptly to preserve the funding opportunity. Staff later clarified the grant expires June 27, 2027 and urged preparing the RFP now so design and construction can proceed within the grant schedule.
Christy said the plan is to replace the playground in the existing footprint and potentially expand into the area previously used for horseshoes; a separate water feature is being discussed but would be handled as a distinct, more complex project. Staff recommended the playground ad hoc committee review the RFP and community survey results before the commission provides formal feedback.
Commissioners discussed timelines and RFP logistics, including minimum posting periods for proposals and the value of packaging design and construction together to speed delivery. Staff said they will bring a draft RFP to the commission for review as soon as it is ready and that staff will continue communication with the grant agency during the procurement process.
