Rye board approves tenures, accepts budget results and gifts, announces retirements

Miss Bole moved the motion and Miss Coffer seconded; the board voted five to nothing to discuss and then approved the tenure appointments 5-0. The tenure recipients celebrated in remarks included school psychologists, special-education and elementary teachers and leaders honored by principals and administrators.
Context: Superintendent Dr. Murray opened the meeting congratulating the new tenure recipients and also used his report to recognize student athletic and arts achievements. "I'd like to start by congratulating once more our colleagues who received tenure this evening," Dr. Murray said.
Consent agenda outcomes: The board reported the district budget passed with an 80% voter approval rate and welcomed newly elected trustees Sean Clapper and Emily Varel. The board accepted a lease agreement for fleet management included in the adopted 2026-27 budget and accepted two gifts: $30,000 from the Midland PTO for first-grade flexible furniture and $3,100 from Half the Story for a digital wellness craft cart for the high school. The consent agenda passed 5-0 with two absences.
Personnel announcements: The board announced retirements of Rosemary Hanley, secretary to Rye High School principal Andrew Hara, after 11 years with the district, and Edgar (Eddie) Ruiz, head custodian at Osborne School, who will retire after 38 years of service. Principals offered tributes and thanks.
Other business: Minor policy updates (vehicle use policy 6835 and employee acceptable use policy 8630) were presented for later adoption, and Dr. Murray opened the annual district-wide safety-plan process that triggers a 30-day community review. The board set its next meeting for June 16, with a planned technology discussion.
The board adjourned after completing business and scheduling follow-up items.
